Dear HART Supporter,
The immediate repercussions of the earthquakes have been dealt with and the monsoon season has arrived.
Daily aftershocks continue, giving rise to an unsettled atmosphere.
However the resumption of normal programmes is well underway with plans in place for the latter part of the year.
News from Pokhara
Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination update
The annual revaccination programme is now back in action with only 4 out of the 18 wards remaining to be covered.
As each street of every ward is walked by the staff any unspayed females are noted, as are any animals in need of veterinary attention. To date, only 170 of the female dogs encountered during this MARV programme had not yet been spayed.
This close and repeated interaction with every corner of the town ensures that the community is aware of HART's work and reminded of how to prevent rabies and how to look after their animals.
Welcome volunteers
Aurelie Gram and Ylva Winsborg, vets from Scandinavia, offered assistance to HART in the earthquake aftermath and, true to their words, arrived in Pokhara on 2nd July.
Over the next few weeks they supported vaccination, neutering and clinical work with their skills and energy, giving the staff a welcome boost.
We are most grateful to them both.
Greater Pokhara
Programmes for the dogs of the new 10 wards added to Pokhara will begin towards the end of this year.
This will be made possible due to the support of Dogs Trust International and we look forward to securing a better future for a great many more animals.

News from Bharatpur
MARV update
In Bharatpur only 4 of the 14 wards remain to be covered and similarly this programme allows unspayed females and animals in need of care to be noted and then dealt with.
During the MARV we record many parameters about each dog, including its "Ownership Status".
We are very pleased to see that 89% of the roaming animals vaccinated so far in the 2015 Bharatpur campaign are classified as being either "Free Roaming Owned" or "Free Roaming Community".
This increased level of guardianship is really good news for the wellbeing of the dogs.
Visit to the International Training Centre
The members of staff based in Bharatpur travelled to the ITC in June to experience the refresher courses offered for vet techs and dog handlers.
The ITC is based in Ooty in the south of India so the journey took the attendees the full length of the country and back.

Fund Raiser Extraordinaire!
Long term HART supporter Anne Clarke completed the "Todmorden Pike Hike" to raise funds back in May.
The Pike Hike route is over 12 miles of difficult terrain and includes an ascent to the 1300ft Stoodley Pike monument.
This year the conditions were particularly wet so, although her mission was successful, it involved an extreme degree of sogginess.
